Hair Transplant Aftercare in Dubai: The Complete Guide
Why Aftercare Matters So Much
Your surgeon does their best work during the procedure, but you determine the final result through aftercare. Proper post-operative care can be the difference between 85% and 95% graft survival — that's hundreds of hairs.
First 48 Hours: Critical Period
- Sleep elevated: Keep your head at 45 degrees using a travel pillow or stacked pillows
- No touching: Don't touch, scratch, or pick at the grafts
- Ice for swelling: Apply ice packs to the forehead (NOT the transplanted area) to reduce swelling
- Take medications: Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, and pain medication as prescribed
- Spray as directed: Use the saline spray provided by your clinic every 30-60 minutes
Days 3-5: First Wash
Your clinic will give specific washing instructions. Generally:
- Apply the provided lotion/foam to the transplanted area
- Leave for 15-30 minutes to soften scabs
- Rinse gently with lukewarm water — NO direct water pressure
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel (not a regular towel)
- Repeat daily until scabs are gone (usually 10-14 days)
Dubai-Specific Aftercare Tips
Dubai's climate presents unique challenges for hair transplant recovery:
- Sun protection: The UAE sun is intense. Avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks. When going outside, wear a loose-fitting hat (not touching the grafts)
- Swimming: No pool or sea swimming for at least 4 weeks. Chlorine and salt water can damage healing grafts
- AC/indoor dryness: Dubai's heavy AC use can dry out the scalp. Use the moisturizing spray regularly
- Dust/sand: Avoid outdoor activities during dusty or windy conditions for 2 weeks
- Sweating: Avoid heavy exercise and sweating for 2-3 weeks. The gym can wait
Weeks 2-4: Settling In
- Scabs should naturally fall off by day 14 (do not pick them)
- Light exercise can resume after week 2
- Normal washing routine after week 3
- Transplanted hairs will begin to shed — this is normal
Months 1-3: The Waiting Game
- Continue minoxidil if prescribed
- Consider PRP sessions to boost growth
- Eat a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, and vitamins
- Stay hydrated (especially important in Dubai's heat)
- Be patient — this is the dormant phase
What NOT to Do
- ❌ Wear tight hats or helmets for 4 weeks
- ❌ Color or chemically treat hair for 6 months
- ❌ Smoke (reduces blood flow and graft survival)
- ❌ Drink alcohol for 1 week post-op
- ❌ Take blood thinners unless medically necessary
